Café Mam
Lovely coffees from the wonderful farmers of Chiapas, Mexico
Café Mam had been sourcing Fair Trade, organic, and shade-grown coffee from indigenous cooperatives for two and a half decades. They asked us to help them tell that story. We refreshed the brand’s visual identity to convey its artisanal nature and appeal to contemporary coffee drinkers while preserving their recognizable red script to maintain the brand’s existing equity. But the real focus was on letting the people farming these coffees shine on the package — sharing their beautiful smiles on the front and a personal story on the back.

Making Coffee Personal
One of the things that makes Café Mam so extraordinary is its personal connection with (and loyalty to) the Mam people who grow coffee beans in Chiapas, Mexico. It was important to highlight that human element of the brand, so we created a system that allowed Café Mam to share their farmers’ stories: The packaging for each roast and blend feature the real farmers who regularly supply beans — all pulled from existing photography from trips to Chiapas. As you see each farmer’s face on the front of the bag, and read their story on the back of the bag, you begin to feel pulled into the wonderful relationship that Café Mam has developed with these Chiapas farmers.
